The last paragraph of the commentary to the 2023 balance sheet said: ‘It will therefore be a 2024 of innovation and planning’ and so it was.
The cholera in Zambia, with the consequent closure of all schools until 12 February, did not allow the new training course to begin, nor did it make up for it in April, due to the absence of the teachers, who had to work for the Ministry, making up for the days of closure.
The start of the school was also delayed, making impossible to completeit before the rainy season. We therefore decided to postpone both projects until 2025.
Instead, we carried out the monitoring, with very significant results, which you can read about in the events section.
You will notice that this year there has been a significant increase in donations: this is largely due to the support received from the guys who make up the Viggiano Vibes APS Association, who decided to hold a fundraiser to dedicate a year’s course and a school to a dear friend of theirs who died prematurely.
The first module of the ECE volunteer teacher training course in Kasenengwa district started on 9 December and will continue in 2025; as soon as the rains are over, hopefully in early March, we will start the school in Mkanda Mateyo.
The increased ncome was also due to a couple of our members who organised events that generated excellent results, in addition to our long-standing supporters.
The 5 x 1000 has unfortunately still made a modest contribution, but we are confident that it will improve in the future thanks to the work by members and supporters to promote awareness of the Association.
We end the year with a huge thank you to all those who helped us achieve a result that allows us to continue important projects for the children of Zambia. There is still much to be done in the Eastern Province and we will be there to do it.
