Every trip is exciting, but there are trips and people that leave a mark on your heart…
not everyone can transform deep pain into something positive, but this makes those who have meant so much to us unforgettable…
This is the story of our journey with the young people of Viggiano:
- Sunday, 12 October – We arrive in Chipata with some friends and family members of Giuseppe, the young man from Viggiano who died prematurely, to whom the initiatives of 2025 will be dedicated.
- Monday, 13 October – We meet in the P.E.O.office (Provincial Education Officer) Mr..Brainly Malambo, his deputy for a cordial welcome meeting.
Afterwards, we meet with our teacher trainers to evaluate the course that has just ended and prepare for the one we will hold next year.
- Tuesday, 14 October – We participate in the graduation ceremony for the group of 10 volunteer E.C.E. teachers who have completed our third annual course for the Kasenengwa District. There is much joy, smiling, singing and dancing, and gifts from their villages for each new teacher.
- Wednesday, 15 October – We visit a few villages that lack suitable facilities for E.C.E. school children, who are forced to share inadequate spaces with older children or to attend lessons under a tree. And there are always many children, from 60 to over 100…
- Thursday, 16 October – The most touching and moving moment was the handover of our fourth school, dedicated to Giuseppe, to Mkanda Mateyo, in the presence of his parents, girlfriend and friends. This was a great gesture of generosity by the community of Viggiano, which is giving hundreds of children a real future.
- Friday, 17 October – We participate in the celebration for the inauguration of a borehole in the village of Iteya, donated by our friend Aldo. A grand celebration for an important gift that improves the living conditions of women and children in particular.
- Saturday, 18 October – Meeting with Pamodzi Ndi Ana to plan the activities we will carry out next year
- Sunday, 19 October – The long journey home begins
The completion of these two projects, the school and the teacher training course, in less than 10 months was made possible thanks to the indispensable operational work of the irreplaceable Pamodzi Ndi Ana, the young people of the Viggiano community who raised the funds, and our donors who have supported us throughout these six years of activity in the Eastern Province.
Our Mission to provide opportunities for children in Zambia, through qualified teachers and safe infrastructure, continues.
Thank you all.
