In the past few days, we have completed the casting for participants in the two-year course for volunteer ECE teachers, reserved for the inhabitants of Kasenengwa District, Eastern Province, Zambia, funded by the Viggiano Vibes APS Association.
The 10 candidates chosen for the first year, whom you see in the photo, are 6 women and 4 men, each from different villages and of various ages.
One of them, Mr Whiteson Khosa, is 70 years old.
We asked ourselves: does it make sense to invest time and money to train someone of such an advanced age?
This man lives in a remote village, where he is the only one who has taken care of pre-school children for over 10 years. He has even arranged a place to look after them.
In the meeting with our teacher trainers, he passionately expressed his desire to learn the knowledge to be a better teacher for the children in his care, because although he has a good basic education, no one has ever trained him. And he has no other opportunity to do so.
Therefore, we welcomed it with equal enthusiasm, because we believe that the interest of children goes beyond prejudices and conventions and we leave no one behind.
